Otter Cottage has a beguiling bird’s eye view of the River Blackwater. Easily accessible, it is the perfect holiday location for a couple or larger group seeking peace and quiet in the Irish countryside. It sits on a riverside lane that sees almost no traffic. The salmon jump, and it’s not unusual to see otters frolicking. The country walks include one of your own – a twenty-minute stroll around the property – with stunning views over the river and the castle and folly on the bank opposite

Those who want a complete break from life’s hustle and bustle may choose to spend their entire holiday on the riverbank with a book, or sitting in a lawn chair watching the salmon jump. For those who want to venture out a bit more, there is plenty on offer in this unspoilt corner of Ireland. The beautiful seaside village of Ardmore is a 20-minute drive, as is the historic town of Lismore - with its magnificent castle, cathedral and heritage centre. Youghal - 20 minutes by car - has one of the longest and most beautiful strands in Europe. Dungarvan, 25 minutes by car, is the starting point for the wonderful Waterford Greenway walking and cycling path. Fabulous food is within easy reach. The Tannery in Dungarvan, The Cliff House Hotel with its Michelin-starred restaurant, Richmond House in Cappoquin offer unique takes on Irish cuisine, but all strive to source locally. For those interested in hiking, the Blackwater Valley offers some of Ireland's most unspoilt walking terrain - from the seashore to the hills of the Knockmealdown and Comeragh mountains. Or take on our own pilgrim's path, St. Declan's Way - that links the ancient ecclesiastical centres of Cashel, Co. Tipperary with the Waterford coastal village of Ardmore. The path passes through our nearest village, Aglish, about 4 km. from Otter Cottage. Kayaks and canoes can be rented at Blackwater Kayaks in Villierstown (2km). Sailing in Dungarvan, and an adventure centre at Ardmore, are within a half an hour's drive. A little further away, there is fantastic surfing at Tramore.
Otter Cottage is adjacent to our own home – we call it “Still Point”. More than any other quality, it is tranquillity that Otter Cottage at Dromore offers its guests – in TS Eliot’s words at “the still point of the turning world, there the dance is.”
