Cong Cong is situated on an island formed by a number of streams that surround it on all sides. Cong is located on the isthmus connecting Loughs Corrib and Mask, near the towns of Headford and Ballinrobe and the villages of Clonbur, the Neale and Cross. There are many opportunities to explore the vast estate with fishing on Lough Corrib, equestrian pursuits, golf, falconry and trail walking. The 12 Bens challenge which takes place in nearby Clifden in June every year is renowned as the toughest mountain walk in Ireland. Only 30 minutes from Clonbur lies Croagh Patrick which is renowned for its Patrician Pilgrimage in honour of Saint Patrick, Ireland's patron saint. Boating Cruising The largest lake in the Republic of Ireland is called Lough Corrib. Measuring 68 sq. miles and with 365 islands, A cruise through this unique waterway is a must while visiting the West of Ireland. The vibrant town of Ballinrobe, set on the River Robe, is just a short drive from this Mayo cottage, offering a fantastic selection of amenities from quirky cafes and bistros to traditional Irish bars. Lough Corrib and Lough Mask provide excellent spots for some of the best fishing in the Emerald Isle, with serene settings for keen anglers. Ballinrobe also hosts a fantastic racecourse plus a championship parkland golf course, so whatever you’re seeking on your Irish break, this County Mayo cottage is sure to delight. The picturesque village of Cong can also be found nearby, renowned as the setting for the classic film, The Quiet Man. The medieval Ashford Castle poses a prominent picture across the county line, and tourists also flock to the beautiful ruin of 13th century Cong Abbey, with its quaint Monks’ Fishing House, a roofless little stone structure resting by the riverside.
