In this charming and neat village there are a number of unusual granite terraced houses and pretty cottages. Interesting buildings include a riverside forge and town hall - at the request of the Earl of Meath. Aughrim was once a granite mining village, and this material is widely used, giving the village a distinctive and coherent architecture.
New to the villlage located at the pavillion in Aughrim beside the fishing park is a country market called "Lean Green Machine" that takes place Thursday - Sunday where you will find healthy treats, speciality coffee and organic produce all sourced locally. Check out Aughrim Town & Country Market facebook page for more information on this wonderful addition to Aughrim village.
There is a children's playground beside the fishing park in Aughrim, a 5 minute walk across the river from Aughrim Holiday Village. There is also another playground located in the pretty village of Annacurra 1 mile from our holiday homes.
There are a variety of activities such a fishing, making Aughrim Holiday Village a great base for a fishing holiday in Ireland. The National Angling Centre is located in the village and only an 8-minute walk from our holiday accommodation, known as a "Fishing for All" a put and take fishing lake in Aughrim. The fantastic facility consists of a 4-acre lake within an 8-acre riverside park with panoramic views overlooking the surrounding Wicklow hills, offering a fun day out for all. You can arrange to bring your own fishing rods and bait or alternatively you can hire rods and purchase bait at the facility.
In addition, there is a pleasant 4km riverside and woodland walk call the Sea Linehan Way which starts at Tinakilly Bridge. It follows the Ballycreen Brook from Aughrim village deep into the Tinakilly Woods. Alder, Oak, Birch and Sycamore trees grace the riverbanks while wild-life to watch out for include dippers, wrens and stoats. And just south west of our holiday accommodation in Aughrim is the Ciaran Shannon Way which can be accessed via the Rednagh Road or by parking at Annacurragh village.
The village is also home to the county grounds of the Wicklow County Gaelic Athletic Association team. Plus, golfers can enjoy a round of golf locally at the Paul McGinley designed golf course nearby at Macreddin. Other top golf courses in Wicklow includes Druids Glen, The European Club, Powerscourt Golf Club and the Wooden Bridge Golf Club to name but a few.
Local wedding venues in Wicklow include Ballybeg House and The BrookLodge & Wells Spa Hotel at Macreddin Village. Wedding guests can base themselves in our village accommodation yet easily reach these two beautiful venues in 6 – 8 minutes.
